I have decided to apply for the job of Councilwoman because I care deeply about our county and am eager to make a positive difference as your representative. Over the last few years, I have been civically active, investigating pertinent issues that affect our lives at the federal, state, and local levels. I have researched and spoken out on issues affecting the economy and our Constitutional rights. My track record in organizing locally and speaking publicly on issues has been one of fiscal conservativism and limited Constitutional government. I have stood up for local autonomy over state and federal mandates which are costly and which limit the ability of our local government to serve the people. As your councilwoman, I will continue to promote these ideals.
As I look around our county, I see much beauty, hope, and promise. We are located in a prime area, with 95 providing close access business centers in Maryland and the surrounding states. We have many natural resources at our disposal including our waterways and parks. Cecil County holds much potential that must be unlocked.
Too many of our residents have to travel out of the county to find decent paying jobs; our infrastructure needs modernization, and too many state and federal mandates limit our ability to make decisions locally which make sense for our community. We have increased our county debt and used county savings to balance our budget. We need to change these things and put into place policies which attract businesses that add value to our community and create an environment in which families can thrive.
My role is as a public servant. As your county councilor, I pledge to do my part to create a more efficient government that lives within its means, prioritizes spending, provides reliable and low tax rates, and is proactive when serving our local interests. I will work with local agencies to address public safety issues and will work closely with our state delegation and other local elected officials to make sure our needs are being represented in Annapolis.
I look forward to the opportunity to get to know each other more in the next few months. I would be honored to earn your support in the primary election on April 26, 2016.
